Comprehensive real-time monitoring

One of the many things we love about Tesla Powerwalls is the amount of information we and our customers can extract from them remotely via the Tesla app. This includes real-time power flows and, for Tesla vehicle owners, information about their vehicles too!

Powerwalls communicate via a homeowner’s Wi-Fi network. However, in the event of a grid outage, they switch to the mobile 4G network to ensure continuity of communication. This enables homeowners to keep a close eye on energy levels until the grid connection is restored.

100% self-sufficiency

The owner of this property in Wollongbar first contacted us in 2016 to ask if we could repair his solar system as the original installer wouldn’t return his calls. We replaced some cabling and junction boxes and installed a new Fronius inverter to get the system back up-and-running. Then, in 2017, we installed a second Fronius system, and in 2018 completed his solar journey with a Tesla Powerwall battery.

Since the Powerwall was installed, this happy homeowner has enjoyed 100% self-sufficiency.

Beautiful property in the Byron Bay hinterland

With no one roof surface that could accommodate enough panels to offset this household’s consumption, the system was split over six surfaces using Enphase microinverters. Coupled with a Tesla Powerwall battery and Wall Connector electric vehicle charger, this beautiful property in the Byron Bay hinterland is now entirely self-sufficient.

In a staged install that spanned several years, the team installed a small Fronius system expansion, Tesla Powerwall battery and helped relocate inverters during renovations at this property in Tintenbar. The homeowners now look forward to using surplus solar electricity stored during the day for use at night and charging their beautiful Nissan Leaf electric vehicle!

Hanger bolts overcome the challenge of Spanish tiles

The team did a great job installing this Enphase system on what was quite a challenging roof – double story, steep pitch and Spanish tiles requiring hanger bolts instead of the standard tile hooks. However, the result was something quite special. The homeowner was so pleased with the result that he came back to us for a Tesla Powerwall battery and some general electrical work around the house.

No install too challenging for Light Touch!

The team had the pleasure of meeting the owner of this property at the very first Byron Bay EV Expo. He had travelled from his home in Hope Island on the Gold Coast and shared with us his frustrations at trying to source a local installer to complete his solar and battery installation. His roof is unusually high, tiled and faces many orientations. Fortunately for him, no install is too challenging for Light Touch Solar & Electrical! Thanks to a 14.5kW solar array and two Tesla Powerwall batteries, his property is now a self-sufficient powerhouse!

24-hour solar power

We’ve been installing quite a few larger residential systems lately which is great to see. This cleverly retrofitted bungalow in Lennox Head is a great example. It benefits from 24-hour solar power thanks to a 10.1kW solar array and two Tesla Powerwalls. Other sustainable features include a Zappi electric vehicle charger, Sanden hot water heat pump, DC ceiling fans, induction cooktop, rainwater harvesting system and productive food garden.

Net exporters of electricity

After converting this property in Lennox Head from predominantly fossil-fuelled to all-electric, the owners turned their attention to rooftop solar to supply their needs. Enter Light Touch Solar & Electrical! Now with an impressive 22.5kW of WINAICO panels on the roof and three Tesla Powerwall batteries, they are net exporters of electricity, supplying their own home and several others around them. In keeping with their desire to lead by example, they also installed rainwater harvesting systems and now have their sights set on an electric vehicle!

Enphase was the only choice

Traditional string inverters typically only allow solar panels to be installed facing in up to two directions. However, the modular nature of Enphase microinverters removes this restriction. So when this customer approached us to install solar on his home’s roof in Myocum, Enphase was the obvious (and only) choice.

The property now features 30 WINAICO panels installed over five roof surfaces. Their combined capacity of 11.3kW is more than enough to cover the property’s daytime loads, so surplus electricity is stored in a Tesla Powerwall for evening use. The Powerwall also provides much needed black-out protection and the ability for the WINAICO panels to continue to generate electricity in the event of an outage.

Another stellar install by the team in Bangalow. This system defied the odds with 45 all-black SunPower panels spanning 11 roof surfaces! The only solution (you guessed it) – Enphase microinverters!
